A typical challenge of upstream processes are variations in the growth behaviour of cultures. This can result in batch to batch variations of the cell density at the time of subculture. These variations can cause problems with further scheduling of the upstream cascade. As a solution for operational practice, a cell number control system was developed on the basis of the temperature dependence of the growth rate.
